Matt Omasta, Utah State University theatre professor and researcher, and Jim Palmarini, EdTA’s Director of Educational Policy, will present the findings of the first and only national survey of secondary theatre education conducted in more than twenty years. This study, conducted in partnership between EdTA and Utah State, follows up EdTA’s first study, Theatre Education in United States High Schools, conducted in 1991. The project, which began in October 2011, examines the state of theatre education from the perspective of administrators and theatre educators. The questions addressed a range of issues pertinent to school theatre such as the level of training of educators; the nature of facilities; curriculum; level of administrator and funding support; perceived student value; assessment strategies; production practices, and questions about the effect of the digital revolution on education.
