The Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Chris Cigolea perform their final program of the season with the internationally-renowned trumpeter James Thompson. Mr. Thompson is a professor of music at the famed Eastman School of Music, but he was also principal trumpet for the Montreal Symphony (under Charles Dutoit) and the Atlanta Symphony.
Since joining the faculty of the Eastman School he has performed as guest Principal Trumpet with orchestras that include the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as the Baltimore, Seattle, and Boston Symphonies.
Mr. Thompson can be heard on CDs with the Montreal and Atlanta Symphonys, as well as solo and chamber projects. His recordings of the Shoshtakovitch Concerto #1 for Piano, Trumpet and Strings and Mahler Symphony #5 were Stereo Review's records of the Month.
The Cuban Legend Bobby Carcasses who is one of the founders of the Cuban Musical Theater and the Cuban Jazz Festival will also be a part of our concert with a surprise Afro-Cuban Jazz performance
