The International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart takes place in general every three years. It takes its name from the father of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) who was born in Augsburg. It was here too that he published his famous violin tutor ‘Gründliche Violinschule’ in 1756, the year in which his son was born. The aim of the competition is to encourage and support today’s young musicians, taking this major tutor as its basis and inspiration. The competition is organized by the Leopold-Mozart-Kuratorium e.V. in co-operation with Augsburg University’s Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum.
