Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy in Burma, will receive an honorary doctorate from The Australian National University.
Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts campaigning for political reform in Burma (now formally known as Myanmar).
Since then, she has received more than 130 awards and honours, including the Companion of the Order of Australia (awarded in 1996) and the United States Congressional Gold Medal (in 2008).
Professor the Honourable Gareth Evans AC QC, ANU Chancellor, will present the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, for Aung San Suu Kyi’s outstanding contributions in the service of society.
