With so many homes on the brink of foreclosure, there are many opportunities for dishonest people to profit from homeowners who are at serious risk of losing their homes. Individuals and companies running fraudulent foreclosure rescue schemes promise to assist homeowners, but take their money without providing relief. GAO examined the nature and prevalence of these schemes and federal efforts to combat them. Lawrance Evans, Jr., a director in GAO’s Financial Markets and Community Investment team, will discuss the findings of GAO’s evaluation and answer questions.
