Thursday 12th Dec 6.00pm (NZDT). Live from Wanaka NZ - Lecture #10 in the 10x10 series - The mathematics of 7 billion. Of the world’s 7 billion people, almost half are reliant on fish for a significant part of their dietary protein and this number is set to rise. But 90% of all commercial fish stocks are now classed as fully exploited or over-exploited. In this final talk in the 10×10 Lectures, Mike Plank will show how mathematics has produced a new approach to fishing which has the potential to resolve some of the ecological and socioeconomic issues that we face.
