Toronto's déVah quartet is not your typical string quartet. Yamaha artists since 2011, déVah is comprised of Emily Hau - electric violin, Sharon Lee and Moira Burke - electric 5-string hybrids, and Liza McLellan - electric cello. Often accompanying them are session drummers who add modern breakbeat and metal beats. déVah invents a rich texture of sound utilizing various non-acoustic modifying tools creating different tones and dimensions to music. Void of the stereotypical mold, déVah is continuously evolving and recreating itself - innovating the quartet world through electric string creativity.
déVah's unique and original style of rock will soon be released on their eponymous debut in June 2013. Their genre is difficult to label - prog-rock? metal? pop? or classic rock? Whatever the style, the music is high-energy artistry performed with virtuosic ability. This band has been a featured opener for Toronto's 2015 Pan Am Games countdown launch, has performed in Vancouver's Alternative Fasion Week, Toronto's POGO Gala and performed live on radio in Ottawa. In addition to performing across Canada as a solo act, déVah has backed up world-renowned artists such as Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Molly Johnson, Feist, Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Kanye West and Emily Haines.
