John D. Rogers, CFA will deliver the opening remarks at the 66th CFA Institute Annual Conference. Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will welcome the global audience to Singapore. Topics will include the impact of slowing Chinese growth on the trajectory of the world’s largest economy; progress in China’s shift from being an export-driven economy to being an internally based, consumer-led economy and the resulting effects on trade, currency flows, and commodity prices; potential sources of downside risk from a rising China: Real estate bubbles, rising debt levels in the corporate/state-owned enterprise sectors, the opaque state-run banking system, and geopolitical aspirations; and opportunities for investing inside and outside China.
