Berry, Steve. The King’s Deception (Ballantine $27 June 14). Leave it to Berry to step into the Tudor industry with an unusual concept. I can’t say anything about it without creating a huge spoiler but it’s a surprising theory he develops. It all begins when former agent, now bookseller Cotton Malone and his son Gary fly from the States to London. Cotton has agreed to escort a teenage fugitive back home as a favor to a friend in the Justice Department. At Heathrow the trio is met by detectives…except they’re not. And the game begins. It takes a lawyer like Berry to dream up one of the ramifications of the plot. Anglophiles of all stripes will enjoy this whether Berry readers or not. And so will thriller fans.
