Sal Albanese is a former New York City Council member, public school teacher, and financial services professional seeking the Democratic nomination for Mayor. Born in Italy and raised in Brooklyn, Sal is known for authoring the city's first Living Wage law, crafting its first campaign finance law, and fighting to put more police on the streets when crime rates were rising.
David Steiner, a former Commissioner of Education for New York State, who has been credited with leading Hunter College's teacher education programs to be among the strongest in the nation (see here), will lead the discussion. As Commissioner, Dr. Steiner helped win a $700 million federal Race to the Top grant for New York and pioneered improved standards to make the state's students college- and career-ready.
