The theme of our event is Better Together. It is clear that education and education reform ignites passion in the hearts of Angelinos, but because of competing ideologies, lack of collaboration, and finger pointing, our students are failed every single day by our education system. This is an injustice that every Angelino should feel a responsibility to rectify because in the end, each education is our collective future.
We feel that the Los Angeles community must come together and sacrifice ideology for the sake of creating community, sharing ideas, and springing into action that will transform the education system, as we now know it. In order to do this, we recognize that the answers do not lie solely within the field of education, and that the transformation of our education system will take the collaboration of stakeholders across the city. We therefore see the need to bring thought leaders from various industries to share multi-disciplinary perspectives on ideas and challenges relevant to education. By sharing these ideas, we hope to spark ideology-free conversation and make connections that will inspire our audience to take action.
What does action look like? It looks like new curriculums rooted in 21st century skills and knowledge. It looks like partnerships that leverage community strengths. It looks like new expectations that hold all stakeholders accountable to student achievement. It looks like new supports to ensure that our teachers and administrators have the training, resources, and tools they need to be successful. It looks like a handshake instead of crossed arms, and a vested interest in our collective future. We envision this conference as just the beginning of creating a community of Angelinos that does not “fight” for educational equity, but rather works towards “building” a Better Education Together.
