The 517th Convocation of the University of Chicago will take place on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 3 p.m. in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. All graduating candidates for the winter quarter have been invited to participate in this ceremony, during which President Robert J. Zimmer will confer degrees and present each graduate with his or her diploma. The convocation address, “Faust’s Despair and the Life of Learning,” will be given by David E. Wellbery, LeRoy T. and Margaret Deffenbaugh Carlson University Professor, Departments of Germanic Studies and Comparative Literature, John U. Nef Committee on Social Thought, and the College; Chairman, Department of Germanic Studies; Director, Center for Interdisciplinary Research on German Literature and Culture at the University of Chicago.
